Sodium ascorbate is the real natural vitamin C since it is the one being synthesized by plants. Generally, animals can synthesize Vitamin C in the past, but when Gulonolactone enzyme was lost, man also losts its ability to synthesize vitamin C. Hence, we need supplementation of Vitamin C.
